Salutation Taught by the Prophet (PBUH)
In Kashf al-ghumma, Imam al-Sha’rani (RA) reported: The Prophet (PBUH) said, ‘When you send prayers upon me, say…’ and he would mention this prayer.” Al-Sharani then added The Prophet (PBUH) said:
That was how these prayers were transmitted to me by Jibril. Jibril said, ‘That was how these prayers were transmitted to me by Mika’il. And Mika’il said, ‘That was how these prayers were transmitted to me by the Lord of Might, Exalted is His Majesty!'” So, whoever sends prayers upon me using these words, I shall be a witness for him on the Day of Resurrection, and I shall intercede for him!
Qadi ‘Iyad, in his book al-Shifa, traced this narration back to Ali ibn al-Husayn (RA), who narrated it on the authority of his father al-Husayn (RA), who narrated it on the authority of Ali ibn Abi Talib (RA).

اَللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ النَّبِيِّ الْأُمِّيِّ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ❁ كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ❁ وَبَارِكْ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ النَّبِيِّ الْأُمِّيِّ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ❁ كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ❁ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَّجِيدٌ ❁ اَللَّهُمَّ وَتَرَحَّمْ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ❁ كَمَا تَرَحَّمْتَ عَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ❁ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَّجِيْدٌ ❁ اَللَّهُمَّ وَتَحَنَّنْ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ❁ كَمَا تَحَنَّنْتَ عَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ❁ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَّجِيدٌ ❁ اَللَّهُمَّ وَسَلِّمْ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ❁ كَمَا سَلَّمْتَ عَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ❁ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَّجِيدٌ
Allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā Muḥammadin n-nabiyyi l-ummiyyi wa ʿalā āli Muḥammadin, kamā ṣallayta ʿalā ibrāhīma wa ʿalā āli ibrāhīma, wa bārik ʿalā Muḥammadini n-nabiyyi l-ummiyyi wa ʿalā āli Muḥammadin, kamā bārakta ʿalā ibrāhīma wa ʿalā āli ibrāhīma, innaka ḥamīdun majīd. Allāhumma wa taraḥḥam ʿalā Muḥammadin wa ʿalā āli Muḥammadin, kamā taraḥḥamta ʿalā ibrāhīma wa ʿalā āli ibrāhīma, innaka ḥamīdun majīd. Allāhumma wa taḥannan ʿalā Muḥammadin wa ʿalā āli Muḥammadin, kamā taḥannanta ʿalā ibrāhīma wa ʿalā āli ibrāhīma, innaka ḥamīdun majīd. Allāhumma wa sallim ʿalā Muḥammadin wa ʿalā āli Muḥammadin, kamā sallamta ʿalā ibrāhīma wa ʿalā āli ibrāhīma, innaka ḥamīdun majīd
O Allah, send prayers upon Muhammad the Primordial Prophet, and upon the Family of Muhammad, in the same way You have sent prayers upon Ibrahim and upon the Family of Ibrahim; and bless Muhammad the Primordial Prophet and the Family of Muhammad, in the same way you have blessed Ibrahim and the Family of Ibrahim; indeed You are the Praiseworthy, the Glorious.
And extend mercy to Muhammad and the Family of Muhammad, in the same way You extended mercy to Ibrahim and the Family of Ibrahim; indeed You are the Praiseworthy, the Glorious.
O Allah, show divine kindness to Muhammad and the Family of Muhammad, in the same way You showed divine kindness to Ibrahim and the Family of Ibrahim; indeed You are the Praiseworthy, the Glorious.
O Allah, send salutations of peace upon Muhammad and the Family of Muhammad, in the same way You sent salutations of peace upon Ibrahim and the Family of Ibrahim; indeed You are the Praiseworthy, the Glorious.
