Tala’al-Badru ‘alayna

Tala ‘al badru ‘alaynaa,
min thaniyyaatil wadaa’
Wajabash shukru ‘alaynaa,
maa da’aa liLlaahi daa’

The full moon rose over us,

from the Valley of Wada
(ancient place where people would bid farewell to travellers)
Gratitude is incumbent upon us,

so long as the caller calls

-Ayyuhal mab’oothu finaa,
ji-ta bil-amril mutaa’
Ji-ta sharraftal Madinah,
marHaban yaa khayra daa’

You who were sent amongst us,

coming with a command to be obeyed
You have honoured the city,

so welcome, best of callers!

The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed [of grain] which grows seven spikes; in each spike is a hundred grains. And Allah multiplies [His reward] for whom He wills. And Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing. - (Qur'an, 2:261)
